Realistic, not perfect
Some days you’ll feel organised and on top of the world. Other days you’ll forget who ordered what or worry you’ve annoyed someone by chasing payment. That’s normal. The important thing is knowing the kinds of things to expect.
Think of these first three months as your “learning season”. You’re not aiming for perfect – you’re aiming to find a rhythm that works alongside your life, not on top of it.
Every rep’s experience is different, but this timeline is a pretty good guide to what many people go through.
Month 1: finding your feet
This is where everything feels new. You’re learning the basics, telling people you’ve started and getting used to seeing Avon as “your little business”.
What usually happens in Month 1
- You have your first chat with me about your goals, time and any worries.
- We get you officially signed up and set up with your brochures and online tools.
- You tell close friends and family – maybe a WhatsApp message, a social post or passing a brochure around.
- You take your first small orders and place your first order with Avon.
In this first month, try not to judge yourself on money. Focus on learning the basics: how ordering works, what your customers like, and what sort of routine might fit your life.
Month 2: your first “proper” routine
By Month 2, you’ve done the scary “first time” bits. Now it’s about settling into a simple pattern you can repeat without burning out.
A sample week in Month 2
- One evening – you check messages, reply to questions and follow up with people who said they’d order.
- One short slot – you drop off or collect brochures, or deliver a few orders.
- One little online moment – posting an offer, sharing your digital brochure or chatting in a small group.
You’ll start to see who your “regulars in the making” might be – the people who enjoy hearing from you and buy something most campaigns.
Little wins in Month 2
- Your first customer re-orders a product they loved.
- Someone asks you for a recommendation.
- You make fewer mistakes with orders and paperwork.
Common wobbles
- Feeling awkward chasing people who haven’t paid yet.
- Comparing yourself to reps who’ve been doing it for years.
- Wondering if you’re “doing enough”.
This is where my support matters – we’ll look at what’s going well, what feels heavy, and tweak your routine together.
Month 3: starting to feel like “your” thing
By Month 3, you’re not brand new anymore. You’ve had good moments, wobbles and probably a few funny stories. Things start to feel more natural.
What often changes in Month 3
- You know who loves what – fragrance fans, skincare lovers, lipstick people.
- You’re more confident suggesting products because you’ve seen what works for people.
- Your income is still side-hustle level, but it feels more consistent.
- You’ve found little shortcuts that suit you – from delivery routes to how you track orders.
The honest bits nobody talks about
Every “this changed my life” story has a B-side. Here are some of the less glamorous bits it’s better to know about upfront.
You’ll probably experience things like:
- Someone ignoring your messages after they asked for a brochure.
- A customer changing their mind after you’ve placed the order.
- Feeling like you’re repeating yourself when a new brochure comes out.
- The odd late payer you have to gently chase more than once.
These things are frustrating, but they’re normal. We’ll talk through how to handle them in a way that feels respectful to you and your customers.
Your job vs my job in those first months
You’re not doing this alone. Here’s a simple way to think about what you bring to the table – and what I’m here to help with.
Your role
- Be honest and friendly with people.
- Turn up for yourself a little bit most weeks.
- Let me know when you feel stuck or unsure.
- Keep track of your orders and payments as best you can.
My role
- Help you get set up and stay on top of the basics.
- Share simple messages and posts you can copy and adjust.
- Talk through tricky customers, slow weeks and wobbles.
- Be honest about what’s realistic, not sell you a fantasy.
If you bring the willingness to learn and a bit of time, I’ll bring the guidance, shortcuts and honesty. That’s the partnership.
After 3 months: deciding what’s next
By the end of three months, you’ll know far more about yourself, your customers and how Avon fits your life than any brochure or advert could ever tell you.
From here, you might:
- Keep things steady as a simple side income that tops up your budget.
- Decide you’d like to gently grow, adding more customers and getting more organised.
- Realise it’s not for you – and choose something else instead, with no hard feelings.
Whatever you decide, those first three months won’t be wasted. You’ll have tried something new, stretched yourself a little and learned what you do and don’t enjoy.
If you’re curious, the next step is simply to talk it through with me and see if it feels like the right time.
